Pencader Heritage Area Association
Goals/Objectives
2007-2008

  1. Continue to educate the community on the need to preserve and proclaim the rich heritage of the Pencader Hundred Area.
  2. Finalize the lease with the State of Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs, for use of the Pencader Museum.
  3. Expand Pencader’s solid relationship with Cub Scout Pack 1777.
  4. Expand our outstanding relationship with the Delaware National Guard in the areas of building(Museum) utilization and historic displays
  5. Collect Pencader area artifacts for display in the Museum and sources of funding for the same.
  6. Develop Power Point presentations of the major areas of interest in the Pencader Hundred and share those with both the general and educational community.
  7. Plan and execute Pencader Family Fun Days for 2007 and 2008.
  8. Expand Pencader Association memberships thru the introduction of creative outreach programs , such as the student/youth Pencader Patriot memberships.
  9. Plan and execute, in unison with Ms Lynn Riley, a annual Dayett Mills/Cooch’s Battlefield clean up day . This event will employ the assistance of Scout Troop 1777 and local School Districts. This event could be held in April in conjunction with the annual Christiana River clean up.
  10. Seek funding for a flagpole for the battlefield area, which might display both the U.S. and Delaware flags.
  11. Seek volunteers to create a walking path on the area of the Dayett Mill - Battlefield , on which the public is currently permitted.
  12. Seek funding for a battlefield memorial in honor of all the troops who perished in the Cooch’s Bridge area battle in 1777.
  13. Continue to explore, in cooperation with the Delaware National Guard , the donation of a surviving 1951 M48 Patton tank, built at the Daimler-Chrysler Newark Plant. This vehicle would serve as a reminder of the sacrifices of Delaware Veterans in all wars and the role played by Newark’s industry in the defense of our nation. Vehicle will be placed in gravel parking lot near Museum entrance
  14. Living History Participant Welcome Aug 24th 2007. Held at the new Museum, this event will both welcome the out of state participants who are part of the 250th anniversary of the Battle, to Newark De, and also expose them to the history and topography of the battle area.
  15. Seek donations for both picnic tables/small bleachers for the use by visiting educators and their classes.
  16. In conjunction with Mr Paul Bauernschmidt and the Delaware Heritage Commission, offer a summer youth camp, on the Museum grounds.
